Dr. Thomas Parham

Dr. Thomas Parham is an associate professor of Theater, Film, and Television at Azusa Pacific University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and spent seven years on active duty, during which he qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer. Thom left the Navy to complete a doctorate in communication studies at Regent University. He has written for the CBS’ drama JAG and the Family Channel sitcom Big Brother Jake, and also served as the on-location writers’ assistant for the third season of Touched by an Angel.

Thom has executive produced several award-winning student films, including “Jaded” and “Giving Her Away,” and he has directed acclaimed stage productions of Dinner with Friends, Dracula, and The Skin of Our Teeth. He also co-wrote the musical comedy Inside Out and the “dramedy” Steeple Chasers, plays that APU’s Drama Ministry Team performed throughout southern California and Phoenix, Arizona.

In its review of Behind the Screen: Hollywood Insiders on Faith, Film, and Culture, Publishers Weekly cited Thom’s essay “Why Do Heathens Make the Best Christian Films?” as a “standout,” and he also wrote a chapter on postmodernism for The Gospel According to Super-Heroes. Dr. Parham is listed in the 2007 edition of Who’s Who in America and in the 2002, 2004, and 2005 editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
